Couscous City: Tate Modern, London.

IMG_1332.JPG

On my recent visit to the new Tate Modern I was impressed by the architecture but most of the work, apart from this left me cold.  It’s a city made of couscous by Kadder Attia and is representative of Ghardaia, a town in Algeria.

Staff took 10 days to shape the buildings, homes and mosques that feature in the work, using 300kg of couscous and 150kg of salt, which helped to stiffen the mixture.
